Speed Dating!

So, my friend and I went speed dating last night up in Aptos. In case all of you aren’t familiar with speed dating, you basically go on a bunch of 6-7 minutes dates. So last night, I had 11, six minute dates. The girls sit at a table, and the guys moved around the room clockwise, talking to each other for 6 minutes until the bell rings, at which point, the guy must get up and move on. You have a sheet to take notes on, write down their name and badge number, and indicate if you are interested in talking more, or “no thanks.” At the end, you turn in your interest indicator portion of the sheet to the coordinator and within 24 hours they’ll email a list of people who were interested in you and let you know if there was a mutual match. If you are still unclear, go watch Hitch, there is a scene in there that shows a speed dating event. Anyway, moving right along to the good stuff…

Did I meet anyone cool?
Why yes, I actually met a lot of cool guys. I personally found it a great way to meet people, as far as dating. I talked to guys I wouldn’t normally talk to or have a chance to talk to for whatever reason. All of the guys there were interesting. Even the ones I wasn’t interested in, were still interesting people.

Here’s a run down: (I’ll just list their numbers, you don’t need to know their names)

#1 Age 29, I liked this guy a lot. He was a gamer boy, into karaoke and lives in Prunedale. We talked video games. I really enjoyed talking with him. He was fun.
#2 Age 35, He was into racing motorcycles and was actually pretty good at it from what he tells me. He is from Salinas. Overall interesting guy, but not crazy about.
#3 Age 30. From Santa Cruz. This was the first guy I talked to during the night, and again, I liked him a lot too. He was kinda shy, definately geeky, into sci-fi, Serenity type movies. Works in a law office and just darn cute.
#6 From Prundale, electrician, outdoorsy kind of guy, likes the lakes, etc… . He was nice.
#7 He was cute. He has short, spiky blonde hair, does construction, had a really outgoing personality, is outdoorsy and also into going to the lakes, boats, etc…
#8 This guy was a bit socially akward. We talked work a lot cause once he found out what I did, he asked about a couple he met the other day and if he could refer them to me. So I gave him my work number (either that, or it was a really good way of getting my number). He was akward, but seemed very sweet and interested in helping others.
#9 From this area. Ok, this guy works for the government. He’s more reserved, and doesn’t look like the type to be at a speed dating event. He was very nice looking, but maybe his reserved personality keeps him from getting dates, I don’t know. I kinda picked him out before hand in being interested. It sucked cause once the conversation got good, the bell rang. He was also a Sociology major, which also surprised me.
#12 From S.C., this guy was really outgood, great personality, kind of a self-starter type guy. Into ballroom and some other kind of dancing, but just started it. He had good questions.
#13 This guy was 40. I don’t know why he was in our group. He was interesting, from Salinas, and likes motorcycles, but overall, nah.
#14 This guy was funny. He is a Christian, and came with a list of questions, including, what am I looking for, what do I have to offer, and what are my views on traditional gender roles. He is also from this area. He had a nice personality, and has a 4 year old daughter.
#15 The last guy. Computer geek. Does the highway safety thing and wants to be a CHP. He was funny and Keva commented she thought I’d like him a lot (he was her first guy, my last). I wasn’t as sure, but he was cool.

Ok, that is all of them. Basically, most of them, I said I’d be interested in talking to them more, just to see. Obviously I’m more interested in a few of them than others, but you never know. Overall, it was a really fun night and I had a great time and good conversations with everyone. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is out there looking.
