Hello World!

I’m back online officially. No big hurrah or anything. I have a few blogs to post up and will try to do start that tonight, but going to Santa Cruz to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall, so we’ll see how I feel when I get home.

On a similarish note, for you inquiring minds, I’ve been seeing this guy named Nathan. We actually dated before. If you are curious, guy #3 here. Wow that was forever ago. Anyway, I stopped blogging about guys here for the most part, but I guess it won’t hurt too much.

Hm, I see an update for the new wordpress already. It says “better performance for categories.” Perhaps that will solve my biggest problem with it. That actually might make it worth coming back and updating tonight.

Last Post

Okay, this is the last post until next week. My night ended up being a bit busier than I planned, so I didn’t get much time to say good by to my good pal the internet (a.k.a. my drug dealer).

Here is probably a better way to explain what I’m doing, in case you are still baffled. I’d compare it to a fast. The purpose of a fast being to sacrifice something for a time, food or whatever, like during Lent, and use that struggle to turn to and rely on God. Now, I don’t blog too awful much about that stuff. I prefer to keep most of that stuff private. And I’m not going to say that is my entire reason. It’s basically that it is what consumes most of my time, and probably an addiction of some sorts. So, more time with God isn’t the reason I necessarily decided to do it, but by doing so, I hope that is a result of it. I basically just neglect things. Things I want to do. Things I need to do. I put off cleaning, reading, praying, studying, hanging out with people and all sorts of other things. So it can be a fast in the sense of just re-prioritizing my life, which definitely includes my relationship with Christ.

So, I’m now officially ready for my fast :-) Pray for me. It’s gonna be a long week!

Sex Talk

I’ve been starting to prepare for one of those “sex talks” with the teenage girls in our Youth Group. Now, I’ve talked to most of them individually or in pairs or something like that as it came up in conversation on the van ride home or when they get here early and stuff. However, this is the first time with this particular group that we’ve actually scheduled one, as a group (of girls, that is).

So we plan to watch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and use that as kind of a warm-up to it, even though the girls know it’s happening. They are good kids we have. They are all going into high school next year and a lot of their classmates are already experimenting. Yeah, you can say we waited a little too late, but I think it’s about the appropriate time for them. They talk to me pretty honestly, so I think we’re still in that window. But still, better late than never, huh?

So, does anyone have any advice or experience with this? We’ve done this with our older group of teens when they were younger, but honestly, they are a different group of kids. Different personalities and dynamics.

We’re doing this on May 2nd, so if you pray, I’d just ask that you keep us, the adults in your prayers, as well as the teens, that they’ll come ready to listen and talk and just have opens hearts to the message.

Cleaning House (or Feeds)

The thought of checking Google Reader next week and finding over 1,000 unread items is horrifying. Today I’ve been unsubscribing some of them. Not a lot, but the ones that easily post 30-60 things a day (if not more, Engadget) and then the things I just never read period (like Engadget). Helps me prioritize. I also organized my labels for them so that I can just click on the folders I want to read to start with. I should make a favorites label so I can start with those.

I’ve replied to all my email (almost, I have one left to do), so I should be basically caught up. My solution for those important, yet non personal emails is that for the most part, they all go to one account, not my primary account and then I have them set to forward to my primary account. So I’ll just check the sub-account. I don’t get emails from real people there and it’s rarely something to respond to. Basically it’s a “you were poked on facebook, ” “so and so wants to be your friend,” “here is your bible verse of the day,” etc…. You get the picture. My 5 month or so long poke war on Facebook will have to be paused I suppose. That actually makes me sad.

(Still hate the category list at the bottom. I forgot it last time and it defaulted to Personal, which was okay for).

The Final Day

Today is my last internet day for a week. I need to make it a good one. I’m not sure what makes a good internet day as opposed to a bad one, but I’ll try to figure that one out today. I’ll do one last post before I go to bed.
