Trip Updates

I’m working on it today/tonight.

Hockey

Hockey is a pretty cool sport. I’ve never really watched it. Penguins won tonight. Watching outside in the rain with other people was pretty cool. Of course, I couldn’t handle the whole game. I was wet and my cameras was getting wet, and I just couldn’t have that. So I left there and went to a sports bar with like 30 TVs, which was awesome.

Later, when I write more, I’ll tell you about the well-known baseball pitcher that was also drafted to the NHL the same year he was drafted to MLB. He happened to be at the game tonight (which should give away which team he might play for).

Pittsburgh Update

I have plenty to blog about, but I’ll do it when I get home and can put everything together. Right now though, I’m in Pittsburgh. I went to visit my brother today and will most likely be going back over there tomorrow night after the baseball game for another quick visit. It’s raining here. Supposed to rain tomorrow too, which doesn’t make for a great sight-seeing and baseball game day, but oh well.

Chicago was great. Jeff was a good tour guide too. Anyone want to guess what my favorite part so far has been, outside of the baseball and seeing my brother?

Chicago Tribune Building. Yep. It wasn’t even on my list of things to see, just a “if I get around to it.” It was amazing. I’ll probably blog more about that later, but I was like a little kid there. The plaza area by it was hands down my favorite place in the city other than Wrigley.

Tonight my plan is to head into Pittsburgh and go to a bar or something to get dinner and watch the Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia Stanley Cups Playoffs game (hockey for those who don’t know what the Stanley Cup is). Can’t get tickets, but being around crazy sports fans always makes me happy.

Day 1: Chicago

Headed out on my trip today. I nearly missed my flight because the shuttle driver at the parking lot I parked at was way late. Slept a little on the plane. The place I’m staying tonight is kinda weird. It’s actually a normal/nice-ish room, nice staff, but looks a little crazy on the outside. It probably isn’t that bad, but it’s raining tonight and it’s kinda out of the city. When I pulled in, I had a flash back to the motel I stayed out on my drive to California when I moved. The first night I didn’t have a reservation anywhere, and pulled into some place late, didn’t pay much attention, but it was spooky. This place, pulling in, looked just like it. Deja Vu.

Tonight I’m staying in Brookfield or nearby. Somewhere near a zoo. The people I’ve encountered so far, which isn’t much, are kinda weird. Burger King and airport people were just rude and rushed, even at times when there is nothing else going on. The motel lady though was cool. She could be from Kentucky.

Anyway, tomorrow I’m off to the White Sox game.

VH1 and Jack in the Box

How’s that for a title? It’s completely unrelated though.

I turned my TV on this morning, which I rarely do. I turned it on because I’m going out of town and I like to give Sam some entertainment while I’m gone. If I don’t turn it on, then my cat sitters will, and I’d rather pick the channel to have some control over what he is watching. Yeah, I know. It’s dumb. Anyway, for whatever reason (i.e. Alisha) my TV was on VH1. I haven’t watched VH1 in years. I guess Alisha must’ve turned it on here last time she was here. I seriously never watch the TV unless she is here. Anyway, VH1 actually is showing good videos/music this morning. Who knew?

Anyway, Jack in the Box. I really don’t like this place much. The food just seems crappy for the most part, minus their milkshakes. I have one like 3 blocks from my house. People out here are crazy about it. I don’t get it really. But, they got some bonus points with me this morning. I’m driving around at 5:45 am cause I’m hungry and tired and need to wake up. I go to Bagel Bakery and they are closed. I then go to McDonald’s and they are closed. I’m thinking, hm, they should be open. It was only a few minutes til 6am by this point and most certainly any place that serves breakfast will be open by 6am, right? Wrong. McDonald’s here doesn’t open until 6:30am! Kids are like getting on the bus almost by then. People are on their way to work. What kind of place that serves a decent breakfast doesn’t open until 6:30 am?! Anyway, so I drive around thinking I’m not going to find anything, other than maybe a mexican place, but I wasn’t in the mood for that. Then I think, maybe Jack in the Box is open. And sure enough, I pull up and it says “Drive thru open 24 hours.” That’s what I’m talking about. I just remember places back home being open much earlier. Coffee drinkers were up and at them well before 6:30 am.

So, Jack in the Box, I may not like your food much, but you are now my official breakfast go-to place!
